Millie the dormouse was fast asleep; she blinked her eyes and wondered why there was so much noise. What could be happening? She lifted her head and peeked out of her tree-trunk home. She twitched her little nose, something was wrong. What was that smell? And why was it so hot?
Toby and his friends run from the fire but what will happen to Millie?

Millie twitched her little nose. Something didn’t smell right. Instead of being sweet and fresh, it now smelled, dry and old. She coughed and climbed out, quickly.
Her ears twitched and she followed the sound of the other animals, but they were way ahead of her.
She stopped. There was something in front of her, it was flickering yellow and orange. It felt hot. Millie didn’t like it. She turned to go the other way but the strange flickering thing was there too. In fact, it was on every side, she was surrounded. The hot thing smelled bad and it was eating up all the leaves, grass and trees.
“Help!” she called. “I’m trapped. Someone come help me! Wise Owl!”
